Program Description:
IWU offers, through it's own programs and through select affiliated partners, over 700 study abroad opportunities in 70+ countries on six continents for students.

Given the breadth of our offerings, IWU policy generally requires that students study through a pre-approved program.  If, however, a student has a compelling academic reason to study through a non-affiliated program, he or she may submit a petition to do so.

The petition to study abroad with a non-affiliated program consists of the following:
  • Petition Form
  • A Personal Statement
  • A Statement of Support from the relevant department/program chair (usually the student's major)
  • Program Information
The completed appeal will be considered by the Academic Exception Committee.  If the petition is granted, you may then proceed with the application process and credit will be granted for academic work done abroad.  If the petition is not granted, you may not participate in the program for IWU credit.  You would, however, have the option of applying to another, approved study abroad program.
