University of Sydney (USyd) is Australia's oldest, and one of its most prestigious, universities. As a member of the Group of Eight, an elite coalition of leading Australian institutions, USyd offers you a range of strong academic courses usually with an Australian perspective. Its commitment to diversity and inclusion, academic excellence, creativity, and leadership define its vision for the students who take part in a vast array of majors and courses offered by USyd. Through Arcadia, you can also choose to include an internship placement while you study at USyd, to gain knowledge and experience to boost your resume.

USyd is ranked 40th in the world in the 2021 QS World Rankings and is consistently among the top three universities in Australia. It has particular strengths in health and life sciences (including pre-med), humanities, and engineering.

Located on the fringe of Sydney's Central Business District, the ivy-covered sandstone buildings of this vibrant and historic institution reflect its colonial heritage, while the modern architecture showcases a high-tech and multicultural direction.

  • Internship placement options include: Advertising; arts; business operations (including HR); entrepreneurial start-ups; environment & sustainability; financial services; hospitality; marketing; non-governmental organizations; and public relations. The Placement Information and Field Guide outlines more placement details.

  • With more than 200 clubs and societies, and a fully equipped sport and fitness center, you can get involved in all kinds of activities from boxing to belly dancing.

  • USyd partners with a number of different large cultural events during the year including TEDxSydney, Sydney Writers' Festival, Sydney Film Festival and National Reconciliation Week.

  • A Conservatorium of Music, an AACSB-accredited Business School, and a College of Art add to the comprehensive nature of the institution which enrolls more than 50,000 students.

Excursions & Activities

With Arcadia, you learn beyond the classroom. Travel to fascinating places of interest that enhance your cultural immersion and give a meaningful context to your academic courses, through Arcadia's planned excursions and activities. Arcadia Australia offers a wonderful array of excursions and activities impacted by the location of your program to bring you unique experiences. These excursions and activities range from urban locations, coastal regions, rural bushlands, rainforests, and tropical islands. They provide you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the culture, environment, traditions, and with the people of these places. You will try new foods, learn new skills, explore incredible places, and learn about the Indigenous peoples of Australia.

Our staff will help you look beneath the surface of everyday life and begin to understand what it means to be Australian. While we encourage you to engage with the culture through your course options, there’s also a world of learning beyond the classroom. All Arcadia excursions are designed to be fun and interactive learning opportunities. We’ll open the doors, but it’s up to you to grasp the opportunity and enjoy a life-changing experience. Our excursions are fun and interactive opportunities to visit places off the beaten track.

As of Fall 2023 we have an early start option available. Listed on TerraDotta as Spring 1 2024 and listed on our website as University of Sydney Spring Friendly.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

Application Process
There is a dual application process for this program.  (1) Students must apply to for permission to study abroad on this program; you can do this by clicking the "Apply Now" button.  At the same time, (2) students apply directly to the program for admission.  The program application can be accessed on the program website.  Please pay close attention to both the IWU and program deadlines, as they may be different.

Tuition Cost
IWU has a home-school tuition policy, which means that students studying abroad will be billed the regular IWU tuition—unless the study abroad tuition is higher, in which case the student pays that higher cost.  Unless otherwise noted, IWU does not charge room and board for studying abroad; instead, students pay those costs to the program provider.
